We all operate best when embracing a high level of empathy. If the actions we take will place others under pressure, we need to be conscious to and empathetic about the outcomes we achieve and the people we implicate. Instead of launching into unilateral decision-making, discuss and co-create with those involved towards a positive resolution for everyone.
And when conflict arises, empathy should be our guiding principle towards its resolution.
We put the team ahead of ourselves and always acknowledge the group effort involved in a successful business
Open Communication.
Communicate honestly, ask questions and think to build
Communicate Honestly: Words make up a measly seven percent of the communication experience. Our focus is on the other 93 percent of the iceberg that sits below the waterline – body language, voice, gestures, attentiveness, and everything else that gives form to the message and delivers clarity or misunderstanding in dialogue. One part of this is articulating clearly, openly and respectfully: we don’t believe in veiled meanings, clandestine inferences and words with no thought behind them. The other part is genuinely listening: if someone is speaking to you, it’s pens down, tools down, with the understanding that everything said is said because it’s meaningful.
Ask questions: We are thirsty to learn and hungry to grow. We don’t just question as a precursor to defending a position or as bait in a trap; we ask so that we can genuinely receive a reply and consider the response. We believe that the only stupid question is the one which we aren’t prepared to hear answered.
Think to build: Destroying things is easy but building things is difficult, especially things built to endure. We like trust that is built to last, with everyone in our team, with our customers, with our suppliers and with our many other stakeholders, and we believe that every interaction based on open and safe communication builds this trust and sparks co-creativity. In the end, we think that kind of interaction is immeasurably more valuable than receiving the short-term gratification of a single ‘win’ that risks the foundations of a strong relationship. Embrace your inner engineer and build positive, creative spaces with your interactions.
An Entrepreneurial Spirit with a Small Business Mindset
Get creative, get productive, get proactive
Small business is about building strong relationships, leading with service and doing more with less in order to create amazing outcomes for everyone involved. We think of our customers and our supplier alike as partners and want to help them achieve what they alone could not otherwise. Anything, including obstacles and challenges, can be repositioned as an opportunity rather than a threat.
A small business mindset also means understanding contexts and realising that every person, place and space operates distinctly. Remember that the guidelines and procedures of the business are there to help make the magic happen rather than prevent it and that there’s always enough room to allow for difference. Respect the difference and build on it, don’t try to make everything fit a single cast.
We believe in going the last mile to co-create positive outcomes within a strategic framework. We believe in having passion for what we do and having fun doing it. And we believe in independent decision-making guided by these core values. We’re not afraid of owning up to our mistakes, but we’re also not afraid to make them.
Do You.
You bring something unique and personal to the team. We want everyone to know it.
We are all so much better at being ourselves than we are at just playing a role, so we want you to bring your personality, your passion and your spirit to the table. We want to never forget that you are real, authentic and different, so keep on reminding us and the world at large by learning and growing together with us.
We know that everyone progresses differently, but we should never stop moving towards a common purpose beyond ourselves, and that pushes us to become better versions of ourselves. When we do, we help those around us become the people they want to be and become pivotal players in shaping the direction and future of us.
Who do you want us to be?
Stop. Collaborate. Listen
Make things happen. Together.
We are a small team that makes incredible things happen, together in collaborative consultation with one another. We understand that solving problems requires many hands and that our accomplishments are never individual.
We aren’t afraid to take on new tasks to help us surmount challenges. And when we assume those responsibilities, we own them. But in turn, we lean on our teammates to help distribute the load and realise an outcome we can be truly proud of.
We trust that they will tackle these tasks with diligence and dedication.
This kind of trust knits the fabric of powerful teams: agile, durable and driven by fierce independence.
